The aptly named “ Shanghai Tang Mansion ” on Duddell’s is the new flagship store of the Asian chic giant Shanghai Tang. Three stories and 15,000 square metres of retail space make for one massive threat to your credit rating. But the Mansion is done with such style that we can’t wait to risk a trip there.
The trademark combination of manchu designs and 21st century trends have made Shanghai Tang the brand we know today, and the store remains faithful to this philosophy by finding a way to make neon lights, “shou” symbols and little red bicycles become a fashionista’s asian fantasy.
The brand’s spring/summer 2014 collection is out, meaning the bread and butter of the place is obviously its ready-to-wear collection (which you can check out here). The collection is looking much more contemporary than the previous ones used to, but, considering what’s on offer, that’s not such a bad thing. However, if you want something more unique, the Mansion offers whole sections dedicated to custom-made clothing with expert tailors that will give you just the extra flair you need.
Shanghai Tang has always had a holistic approach to style. So if you want to bring the Tang’s sense of design right into your living room, you’ll be happy to know that the homeware section is still going strong in the new collection.
Shanghai Tang has left its more understated shell back on Pedder street for a three-storey masterpiece in Duddell’s that’s definitely worth your time if you ever find yourself on a shopping spree in Hong Kong.
