Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle: Walk with giants.
Elephants are surprisingly closer to us than we give them credit for. Reports of self awareness and compassion are often observed and serious consideration is given to the possibility of raising their legal status to that of non human persons (what’s that? Here’s a short explanation, and here’s a nice case).
Few people have the opportunity to interact with these giants meaningfully, and that’s too bad, because the best way to advocate their rights is to spend time with them.
The Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle allows you to do just that. It’s a unique luxury resort where you’ll wake up to an elephant trumpeting as it passes by your window and where you’ll learn to live with, and ride one of the most fascinating creatures in the world.
Six Senses Zighy Bay: Paraglide into your hotel
We talked about the Six Senses Zighy Bay being one of the most romantic places in the UAE but if you’re an adrenaline junkie with a penchant for rocky desert escapes, this resort may also be the dream escape for you.
Oman’s Musandam Peninsula is a great spot for paragliding. The wind is great, the vista of cobalt blue seas and sand dunes is breathtaking, and it’s the only place in the world with a five star luxury resort for a landing pad. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to paraglide to your check in, the Six Senses Zighy Bay, holds the answer.
Ritz Carlton Hong Kong: A drink at the highest bar in the world
In a city with skyscraper hotels by the square mile, the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong stands high above the rest. This is one of the tallest hotels in the world and it’s lofty heights are only matched by the luxury you’ll find inside. You won’t find better views of Kowloon elsewhere.
The hotel is home to the Ozone Bar which at time of writing, holds the title of highest hotel bar in the world. As it’s set on the 118th floor of the hotel, the view here is simply breathtaking and worth a visit whether or not you want to have a drink but if you do, it will be one to remember.
Château Saint-Martin & Spa: Spend the night in a former Knight’s Templar stronghold
From its bird’s nest in the hills of the Côte d’Azur, the Château Saint Martin & Spa has a panoramic view over the medieval town of Vence and the Mediterranean sea. A position ideal for 21st century luxury travelers and for medieval watchmen of the Knights Templar.
The Chateau’s history reaches back to Roman times and was passed on to the Knight’s Templar in 1150. Legend has it that following their Commander’s arrest, the Knight’s buried a large, yet to be discovered treasure somewhere on the grounds. That’s a nice piece of trivia, but in our opinion, the real treasure is well above ground.
Belmond Sanctuary Lodge: Exclusive access to the Machu Pichu
Imagine having the Incan ruins of the Machu Pichu all to yourself? short of camping there, a stay at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is the best way to have exclusive access to one of the seven wonders of the world… and a much more comfortable one as well.
The Belmond is the only hotel allowed within the Machu Pichu Sanctuary and guests of the hotel are granted early and late access to the Incan ruins, which they can visit in the brief window of time when it’s mostly tourist free.
Villa d’Este: UNESCO heritage gardens at your doorstep
Many hotels in our collection have beautiful gardens but few can claim UNESCO heritage status or to have been the main influence for modern European landscaping. Unless it’s the Villa d’Este.
Commissioned by the Este family to match the beauty found in Emperor Hadrian’s gardens, the Villa d’Este is a fantasy land of impressive waterworks, statues and flora which guests love to explore. With the sparkling waters of Lake Como as a backdrop, this is by far one of the most beautiful places one can visit in their lifetime.
