Park Hyatt Mallorca

Park Hyatt Mallorca - Brand New Hotels

What you’ll like:
  • The original designs which emulate a traditional Mallorcan village.

  • The views of the Canyamel valley from your terrace.

  • The four excellent golf courses are all worth a try

Majorca is an island of two tales. While Magaluf has been partying itself stupid for the past 20 years, the islands’ North East, is where the Camerons, Kate Moss, and anyone after a quiet holiday under the Mediterranean sun, choose to go.

Found in the Cap Vermell Estate, overlooking the Canyamel and designed like a typical Mallorquin village, the Park Hyatt Mallorca is as far removed from Magaluf and Palma Bay as it gets.

You’ll struggle to find a party venue around here, but the four golf courses, five-minute access to Canyamel beach, and proximity to the historic towns of Capdepera and Arta should more than make up for your loss.

Though the Park Hyatt’s exteriors were designed with tradition in mind, its interiors, are shamelessly contemporary. Clad in soothing tones of beige and white and with jaw-dropping views of the Canyamel Valley available from their private terraces, each of the hotel’s 142 guestrooms exudes an aura of zen you’ll love spending time in.

Since luxury is in the details, the Park Hyatt Mallorca’s Carrera marble washbasins, bathtubs, mirrors with integrated televisions, and a curated selection of Bottega Veneta toiletries round off this incredible Mediterranean getaway.

With five dining options available on site, you might not even have the time to sample all the menu options before your stay at the Park Hyatt Mallorca is over.

The Balearic restaurant offers a quintessential Mallorcan culinary experience. Local producers and fishermen supply the ingredients, for sea food risottos and barbecues and lamb confits, best enjoyed Alfresco, in the restaurants’ small Mediterranean garden.

At the “Asian” dabble in Nyonya Chicken Curry, Roast Duck in Orange Sauce and other delicacies in a gorgeous restaurant concept where traditional Asian artifacts blend with black marble flooring and taupe stones walls.

The Tapas Bar is a convivial space where you can watch the Michelin Star Chef David García make fresh tapas live, and the Café Sa Plaça serves up pastries, home-made smoothies, and ice creams by award-winning pastry chef Oriol Balaguer.

Amenities and experiences

As we mentioned earlier, Mallorca’s North East is a far cry from the wild parties the rest of the island is known for. Instead of the cheaper than water vodka shots of Magaluf, the Park Hyatt Mallorca invites you to sample the wine from the region’s’ best vineyards on its organised wine tours of Canyamel. You can learn a local recipe or two in cooking classes hosted by the hotel’s Chefs, or tee off in one of the four golf courses close to the resort. If you just want to head out and explore, the historic towns of Capdepera and Arta are only minutes away. For a special spa experience, the hotel’s Serenitas Spa, set in a peaceful garden and framed by the Serra de Llevant mountains, is a treat.

Shangri- La Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives

Shangri- La Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives

What you’ll like:
  • The space! There’s no bigger single island resort in the Maldives.

  • Excellent diving and snorkeling spots all around

  • Private plunge pools in every room

By Maldivian standards, the Shangri- La Villingili Resort & Spa, is a behemoth. Spread over 12 acres, it’s the largest single resort island in the Maldives and offers – among many other things – the luxury of space to its guests.

There’s more to it of course. The surrounding waters are teeming with life, and diving or sailing the Indian Ocean on a Dhoni guarantees you’ll catch a glimpse of dolphins, manta rays, whale sharks and other colorful denizens of the deep.

If you’d rather stay on land, exploring the island is just as entertaining with a lush forest, mangrove swamps, and freshwater lagoons to discover as you explore the island on your bicycle.

The Shangri- La Villingili Resort & Spa comprises 132 villas for you to choose. These include the ubiquitous overwater villas, but also, tree houses with ocean views and secluded beachfront options. Whichever you choose you’re guaranteed the most spacious rooms in the Maldives along with private plunge pools, open air showers and massive outdoor decks from which to soak in the view. If you want to indulge, the over water Villa Muthee, with its impressive 6,135 sq feet of space, two pavilions, infinity pool and private spa (yes, there’s a sauna as well) is the one to pick.

The resort’s three restaurants make clever use of their surroundings with Alfresco dining areas that are nothing short of magical, and the flavorsome dishes – inspired by Eastern, Mediterranean and European cuisine – are on par with other resorts in the Maldives.

If you like exotic spices and curries,” Dr. Ali’s,” is the standout of the three. Fresh catch is served at the “Fashala, ” and the hotel’s main restaurant, the Jaavu, – open all day as from 7.00am – is the guilty pleasure you’ll run to whenever you’re feeling peckish.

If you’re after something off the beaten track to enjoy with your partner, the Shangri La’s Dine by Design concept turns the whole island into your restaurant. All you have to do is choose the spot and whether it’s in the jungle, on the pontoon, or even out at sea, the Shangri-La staff will create a special atmosphere and menu for you two to enjoy.

The Dolder Grand

The Dolder Grand - Brand new hotels

What you’ll like:
  • Close to Zurich’s city center but in an area that feels like the countryside.

  • The spa is out of this world.

  • The signature suites are well worth splurge.

The Dolder Grand is one of the few hotels in the world where you can walk past a Dali, a Warhol and a Botero before you’ve even made it to the dinner table. Any of the pieces in this hotel’s impressive collection would fit right into a museum, but there’s more than art to lure you to this Grande Dame. Branded as a city resort, the Dolder Grand offers a resort style experience while being only 15 minutes away from Zurich’s city center, and its Michelin star restaurant – run by Chef Heiko Neider – is the best around. For spa lovers, the hotel’s 43,000 square foot temple of pampering is worth the trip alone.

The Dolder Grand has been in business since 1899, but if you’re judging by the looks of the rooms alone, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s younger than a Millennial. Discreet luxury is the byword here, and the newer rooms – a hotel-wide renovation was completed in 2008 – look sleek with their dark wood tones, floor-to-ceiling windows, and balconies with views of the Alps. But, for the ultimate decadence, nothing beats the signature suites. Inspired by famous former guests, they benefit from unique designs and special flourishes such as a Grand Piano ( Maestro Suite) Saunas (Masina Suite), fireplaces and round the clock butler service.

The Dolder Grand has two excellent dining options you can choose, but the crown jewel, is the 2 Michelin- Star eat run by Chef Heiki Neider. Simply called “the restaurant,” Neider’s establishment holds 18 GaultMillau points and two Michelin- stars and is an unmissable experience for gourmets in Zurich. For a more relaxed atmosphere, the Saltz restaurant, designed by Swiss artist Rolf Sachs, is a worthy alternative.

Activities and experiences

The number of activities on offer are another of the Dolder Grand’s strong points. The hotel’s location on the Zürichberg Hill – within Zurich’s city limits but just out enough – means there’s more space on offer than most city hotels, and the Dolder Grand, puts every square foot to good use. Activities include a nine-hole golf course, five clay tennis courts, a 50-meter long outdoor pool, and Zurich’s only minigolf course. For a taste of the outdoors, the Adlisberg Forest is right next to the hotel and the ideal place for long walks, cycling tours or a quick run before heading into the city. However, the main attraction is the 43,000 square foot spa, which blends the crispness of the Alpine setting, with the principles of Japanese Zen to perfection.

The Whitby Hotel

The Whitby Hotel - Interiors

What you’ll like:
  • Those Kit Kemp designs.

  • The Whitby bar’s relaxed vibe and menu.

  • Excellent location in Midtown Manhattan.

British hoteliers Tim and Kit Kemp are no strangers to New York. Their first hotel in the city, the Crosby Street, hit the ground running within weeks of its opening as New Yorkers lapped up the hotel’s unique designs and laid back philosophy. Their latest property across the pond, the Whitby hotel, is less than a month’s old and already seems set to repeat the feat.

Only minutes from Central Park and some of New York’s hottest art galleries (the MOMA, is only 5 minutes away) and restaurants, the Whitby’s upper Midtown location makes New York your playground. But, as with all Firmdale properties, it’s what’s on the inside that really counts, and with 86 individually styled bedrooms, a state of the art theater, library, and a swanky bar it’s got plenty of arguments to tempt you to try it next time you’re in town.

All of the Whitby Hotel’s 86 rooms and suites are individually designed. Considering that Kit Kemp is in charge, that’s nothing to scoff at, and if you’re a fan of her signature style, you’ll know what to expect (anything at all really). The crown jewel here, is the Whitby Suite, a spacious room which occupies the whole top floor of the hotel. Equipped with a terrace and floor to ceiling windows, the suite lets you enjoy those iconic New York skyline views from every angle and after a long day out and about, there’s nothing quite like slipping into your bathroom’s deep tub and letting your favorite tunes play on the room’s Bluetooth Bose Unit. New York, New York.

It’s barely been a month since the Whitby Bar’s opening, but most of Midtown’s after work crowd already have it on their must- try list.

This colorful and airy space is where Head Chef Anthony Paris (formerly from the Crosby Street Hotel) serves up an all-day seasonal menu that includes classics such as an English breakfast (with black pudding, yes), and innovative takes on comfort foods like a grilled double-cut pork chops with purslane salad and sour cherry- black pepper gastrique. In line with British traditions, afternoon tea is available around the clock.

Amenities and experiences

Just like its brothers and sisters, the Whitby Hotel is home to a state of the art cinema for you to enjoy.

This 130 seat theater – with 3D viewing technology – is perfect for corporate events and film screenings. If you’re playing host for a business function, the hotel puts four private events and meeting rooms at your disposal where you can hold dinners, meetings, and receptions. For those who don’t want to skip their fitness sessions, the Whitby’s well equipped 24/7 gym (with personal trainers available on request) is the perfect solution.
