Florence isn’t shy of great hotels. But once you step away from old town, cross the Ponte Vecchio and head towards the “Oltrarno,” it’s been slim pickings since the Hotel Lungarno closed for a six-month long renovation. But now, that wait is nearly over.
Scheduled to re-open on the 1st of June, the revamped hotel might be one of the best reasons to cross the bridge and stay in Florence’s lesser know side. We haven’t had the chance to visit yet, but based on the pictures sent by the hotel, things are looking good indeed.
With its privileged location on the banks of the Arno, and stone’s throw distance from the Ponte Vecchio, you’ll struggle to find a Florentine hotel with a stronger sense of place than the Hotel Lungarno.
Nor will you find more fashionable.
The Michele Bonan interiors- a throwback to the 1950’s complete with original artworks from Picasso and Cocteau – are tailor-made for the red-carpet ready crowds you’ll find in the hotel’s Picteau Lounge Bar and Borgo San Jacopo Michelin-star restaurant.
With incredible views of the Ponte Vecchio, original art from Cocteau, Bueno, and Rosai, and soothing blue and white tones with suave Art Deco looks; if you’re after a “room with a view” in Florence, the Lungarno’s are among the best around. The redesign brings the hotel’s room count to 65 and sees the introduction of two Executive floors and ten new family rooms and suites which can accommodate up to four guests and be interconnected.
Guests can also expect a brand new lobby with views of the Ponte Vecchio, as well as a breakfast area, redesigned for an al-fresco dining experience. The Picteau Lounge also gets a revamp, and promises to be a much airier space and the best spot in Florence for afternoon tea and aperitivos.
Other than fresh looks, the Hotel Lungarno will also be proposing new activities including Art itineraries covering the hotel’s impressive collection of 400 drawings from the 20th Century by the likes of Picasso, Cocteau, Bueno, Sironi and Piranesi.
If you’d like to be among the first to stay in the hotel when it re-opens, you can book a spot right here and if you just want the latest news on the hotel when it opens, watch this space for more information.
