MORE ON

There’s many reasons to love the London’s legendary Stafford hotel, but now, thanks to the work of Champalimaud Design – and a couple of million pounds of renovation money – there’s more.

The Stafford Hotel have commissioned the award winning Champalimaud Design to redesign their historical Townhouse suites. Led by Alexandra Champalimaud, Champalimaud Design’ portfolio includes the likes of The Peninsula New York’ Spa, Beverly Hills Hotels bungalows, the Dorchester London, and The Carlyle hotel in New York. For their work at the Stafford Champalimaud’ team created an “ eclectic take on the hotel’s British heritage with designs that capture the luxurious spirit and contemporary elegance of a glamorous country look.”

The Carriage House Suites owe their name to their history. Once the former stables of nobleman and politician Lord Francis Godolphin , the suites are tucked away from the hotel in a 380 – year – old Grade II listed building.

The Carriage House – Junior Suite

Each of the 11 suites are designed with the typical flair and quirkiness one would find in an English home, albeit with a luxury twist in line with the Stafford’s storied heritage.

The hotel’s Guv’nors suite, now called the Gatehouse, also received a revamp by Champalimaud’ team. Adjacent to the Carriage Houses, the Gatehouse suite is a two-bedroom, multi-level townhouse that can be booked as a one-bedroom junior suite, a two-story suite with dining area, or a three-level townhouse with a private lift for easy access to every level, and modern touches such as original artwork by famous graffiti artist, Banksy.

In the words of Alexandra Champalimaud, “The Stafford has an extraordinary story to tell that is different from other luxury hotels in London – and the Carriage House rooms play a very big role in that story. These rooms as we conceived them were not to be heavy or stereotype in their design, tedious or too historic in nature, even laden with too much fact; our design, although entirely fitting looks forward with freshness and humour. We have been careful to tell the story magically, bringing the very Britishness and spirit of what is so special about this charming place to life,”
