Hotel Café Royal Launches the diptyque afternoon tea

Of all the great British traditions, none receives more creative license than the Afternoon tea. If you’re booked into a London luxury hotel, chances are you’ll be looking forward to threatening your waistline as from 16:00 with scones, cucumber sandwiches and jam.

But why settle for standard?

This summer, the Hotel Café Royal breathes new life into its Afternoon tea by collaborating with leading perfumer and artist, diptyque, to create the “diptyque Afternoon Tea”.

An awardee of the “Best Traditional Afternoon Tea” and served in the gorgeous Oscar Wilde Bar, the ” diptyque Afternoon Tea” is an indlugence for the senses served in one of London’s most storied bars (Wilde fell in love with Lord Alfred Douglas, and Mick Jagger, the Beatles and Elizabeth Taylor regularly partied here).

This exclusive collaboration sees Executive Pastry Chef Sarah Barber, create four new sweet delicacies inspired by the unique scents of the French company. As from September, guests can enjoy the following alongside their regular afternoon tea experience:

1. Rose Victoria: A Victoria sponge with a raspberry and rose jam and a lychee and rose mousse, topped with silver leaf and crystallized rose.

2. Tahitian Vanilla Bar: Tahitian vanilla sponge topped with hazelnut praline feuillatine and a Valrhona “Opalys” ganache.

3. Violet and Cassis Tart: A sweet pastry tart with violet cream and blackcurrant jam.

4. Lemon Verbena: Averveine infused lemon cream with an orange crémeux on a sablé Breton base.

Guests of the Hotel Café Royal enjoying the “diptyque Afternoon Tea” will also receive Baies candles lace with dyptiques most popular scent, a subtle mix of Bulgarian roses and blackcurrant leaves.
