It’s Spring in the UK, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that there’s a royal wedding on the way. That’s reason enough to pack your bags for the swinging city, but there’s plenty more happening in London, and we’ve listed the top picks here.
The Royal Wedding – St George Cathedral and main thoroughfares
Let’s get the most obvious one out of the way. London’s hot-ticket item for 2018 is the forthcoming marriage between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Royal watchers and the romantically inclined will indulge in the pomp and ceremony that will envelop the city on that special day. The pair are due to tie the knot on the 19th with celebrations of the event dominating city venues and parade centers. If you want to be in London and soak in the atmosphere, make your pick from any of these excellent hotels.
The Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show – Royal Hospital Chelsea
The wedding theme continues as the Chelsea area of South West London honors the nuptials by hosting its annual Flower Show. From the 21st-26th London’s garden comes alive with “Summer of Love” and “Health and Wellbeing” motifs. Artists and designers will exhibit their works with over five hundred dedicated displays accompanied by entertainment in the evenings.
Museums at Night – Multiple venues
Windsor Castle won’t be the only monument on display in May. The stunning architectural marvels of London’s sprawling city-scape are always a drawcard for the traveler. From the 16th-19th of May, some of London’s iconic museums will open their doors to evening events and give you a rare chance to go behind the scenes and see them in a different light.
London Wine Week – Multiple venues
Not getting an invite to the wedding bringing you down? Don’t worry, London gives you plenty of delicious ways to numb the pain. From the 14th-20th of May, the city will host its annual wine festival with affiliated bars and businesses. They will provide the full-bodied experience of wine tastings and snack pairings across 125 establishments throughout the city. If you don’t mind watching the wedding on a big screen, head to Flat Iron Square on the 19th for a live screening and tasting.
Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier – The Design Museum
Fashion is all the rage in London at the moment with Meghan Markle’s wedding dress the subject of much intrigue and set to dazzle the fashionistas. But that’s not all London has to offer fashion lovers this month. An exhibit of acclaimed designer Azzedine Alaïa’s hand-picked garment collection is on display at the Design Museum in Kensington, open through to October.
