The luxury travel industry is filled with innovative and unique experiences and we’re of the opinion that dining in the very apartments enjoyed by royalty is right up there with the best of them.

The following hotels from our collection were once all owned and lived in by kings and queens of Asia, and the service and comfort they offer are befitting of their pedigree to this day.

Taj Lake Palace

Taj Lake Palace Palace Hotels

After Prince Maharana Jagat Singh got a royal telling off for his lavish parties on palace grounds, he did what every self-respecting royal with a penchant for extravagance would do. To avoid bothersome calls to sobriety and restraint, the prince decided to continue his shenanigans on his private playground, and that’s how the Taj Lake Palace was born.

Taj Lake Palace

Though built on an island, the marble and stone structure seems to float atop the lake, turning the Taj Lake Palace into a vision that wouldn’t look out of place in a fantasy landscape. The butlers and some members of the serving staff are the direct descendants of retainers that waited upon prince Mahrana Jagat Singh himself, so royal service is pretty much a guarantee.

Rambagh Palace

Rambagh Palace

The Rambagh Palace is deeply entrenched in Jaipur’s royal history and is a dream factory for anyone who hasn’t set foot inside… After all, this is the hotel that lets you play polo from the back of an elephant.

Rambagh Palace

Once the former residence of a royal handmaiden, it evolved into a hunting lodge before prince Sawaii Man Singh established it as his royal residence and threw in some royal suites for good measure. Nowadays it still serves up the royal treatment in spades and offers ballroom dining and lamplit courtyards and tents, and the views over the Aravalli hills are second to none.

Umaid Bhawan Palace

Umaid Bhawan Palace

You can only stay in one section of this palace… Want to know why? Because the other section still houses the royal family, which commissioned its construction in 1905…(their descendants of course)

One of the world’s largest private residences and among the last great palaces of India, the Umaid Bhawan Palace offers a unique hotel experience. As if the sheer size and having royals as neighbors wasn’t enough of a wow factor, the palace is also staffed by the descendants of the palace’s retainers, and they know just how to provide service fit for a king… After all, it’s in their blood.
